250 Calorie Waffle Iron Breakfast Sandwich. Make your egg-and-cheese sandwich by putting the egg in a waffle maker. It’s easy, portable, and delicious.

Whether you want a quick breakfast egg and cheese sandwich, or you just don’t want to take out a skillet and heat up your stove top, use a waffle iron instead!

This egg and cheese sandwich has fewer calories than a traditional egg and cheese sandwich. The total calories and macros of this sandwich are 250 calories with 25 g carbs, 15 g protein and 13 g of fat.

Here’s how I reduced the calories:

  • I used Dave’s Killer Bread, thin sliced 60 calories per slice! This was the first time this option was available at my grocery store. I’ve been enjoying the 70 and 80 calorie bread from Killer Dave, but 60 is a new low! Plus, it’s so seedy and hearty, that I consider it quite filling.
  • I used one egg. One egg is 72 calories, so that’s the majority of the 250 calories here. You can also crack and cook the eggs right on the waffle maker! You don’t need to whisk the egg ahead of time or worry about it sticking. Every time I’ve cooked a whole egg on a waffle iron, it comes out perfectly! (See the image below).

  • 1 slice of cheese equals 1/2 ounce. Check the labels when you go to the grocery store. Some cheeses can be cut thin enough to yield 1/2 ounce per slice. This is great news for calorie-counters like me! A full ounce of cheddar cheese is 110 calories, but if you can get a 65 calorie slice, or better yet a 45 calorie one (sargento’s thin sliced cheese), than you can save quite a bit of calories.
  • And that’s it!

Spray the waffle maker with cooking spray.  Place 1 slice of bread in middle.  Add the cheese and hard-cooked egg.  Add one more slice of bread and close the waffle iron. Continue to cook until cheese is melted and bread becomes crispy.

  • Cooking spray
  • 1 Large egg
  • 2 Slices Dave’s Killer Bread, thinly sliced (The 60-calorie one)
  • 1/2 One ounce cheddar cheese (thinly sliced cheese)
  • Spray the heated waffle iron using cooking spray

  • Place one egg in each corner of the waffle iron. Close the lid and cook for 1-2 mins or until the indicator light turns on.

  • Take out the egg from your waffle iron and replace it with one slice of bread. Layer the thinly sliced cheese and egg on top of the bread. Close the lid and let the bread cook. Once the cheese is melted, you can close the lid.

  • Take out the waffle iron and enjoy
