Protein icecream has become a staple of my diet. It can be made in two ways.

Mixing protein powder with liquids is the first step to making protein ice-cream. Then freeze the entire thing. This strawberry protein ice-cream This is one example.

You can also freeze fruit and mix it with protein powder to make instant protein ice-cream.

For the cookies and cream flavor, I decided to freeze the whole thing, because I didn’t want any fruit flavors in the ice cream. Pure vanilla with crushed chocolate cookies added.

The only three ingredients I used were:

  • Vanilla protein powder – I used Clean Simple Eats vanilla. This actually doesn’t matter so much for the taste, but for the calories and macros it does matter. Clean simple consumes protein with more carbs and fewer calories that traditional protein powder. So, if you use a different protein powder, you’ll want to recalculate the macros!
  • Almond milk unsweetened vanilla– At 30 calories per cup, this is a must!
  • And Crumbled chocolate cookies I actually used chocolate teddy grahams, because that’s what I had in my pantry, and they worked great!

After the protein powder has been mixed with the almond milk, I gently stirred the cookies into the mixture and then put it in a freezer.

This is the downside to protein ice cream. It can become hard and sometimes even icy. I’ve always had to take the ice cream out of the freezer and let sit on the counter top for about 10 minutes before scooping into it.

For the icy part, Stirring the ice cream while it’s setting up to freeze sometimes helps! The creamier the ice cream will become, the more you stir it.
